At The Grammar Junior School, the Greek language holds an equally important place alongside English. We approach Greek not simply as a school subject but as a living means of thought, expression and communication.
Our aim is to help every child develop deep and functional language proficiency. We support students so they can express themselves with clarity and confidence, formulate logical and well-reasoned arguments, and engage critically with the world around them.
We follow the curriculum approved by the Ministry of Education and Culture, using the official textbooks found in all public Greek-speaking schools. These materials are adapted to meet the specific needs and learning pace of our students.
Alongside the official textbooks, our department has created additional learning resources that enrich the teaching process. These materials follow the structure of the main textbooks and include:
All resources are reviewed and updated annually.
Our primary focus is functional language competence and confident expression. This includes:
We aim for our students to use Greek effectively in a variety of contexts and to feel secure, confident, and capable in their language skills, both in the classroom and beyond.
We also focus on broader communication skills. Throughout the year, students take part in small debate workshops, book presentations, group discussions, class showcases and other activities that strengthen public speaking and critical thinking.
These experiences help children learn to express their opinions, collaborate with others and stand with confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
Preparing Students for the Future
Through all aspects of our Greek programme, our goal is for every child to move on to secondary school equipped with strong linguistic tools, critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate effectively and thoughtfully.
